+ Level 1 Cert): Essentials of River Canoe
Level 3 (1 day Oct 14
+ Level 2 Cert): Moving Water Canoe (old Basic River Canoe)
This course is appropriate for:
* Camps and Conferences offering canoe
programs on Lakes or Rivers
* County and City Parks and Recreation
Canoe Program Staff/Trip Leaders
* Physical Education Programs wishing to
teach paddling as a life-time sport
* Current Certified Instructors needing
updates
* Anyone wishing to teach canoeing and
gain in their own skills as well, and
* Girl and Boy Scout Leaders wishing to
teach skills and lead trips for Scouting Programs.

Stay for all 4 days or just for the
level certification you wish to achieve. All Course work will be in
the Roanoke Valley Area. Tent Camping, Bunk style accommodations, or
local hotels can be arranged for participants if desired (lodging fees
are NOT included in Course Price).
Classes begin daily at 9:00 am and
finish around 5:00 pm. Instructor Candidates are
expected to bring a “working” lunch to each session, and plenty of
fluids for the day.

Prerequisite: Must be a current
or new member of the American Canoe Association and pay $25 fee to the
Safety Instruction and Education Council (SEIC) at time of
certification.
Equipment: Instructor Candidates
may bring their own boats, paddles, and PFDs, or may rent appropriate
gear for the duration of the course from the instructor. Please
contact the Instructor for additional fees if rental equipment is
needed.

Beth Wiegandt: Beth has been instructing
canoeists and leading trips in the area for
the past 22 years. Contact Beth

other paddling opportunities.
Ken Guerrant: Ken comes to us from
Maryland for this course as a seasoned Instructor Trainer Educator
with the ACA.
Registration: A minimum of 5
Instructor Candidates and maximum of 12 ensure that you receive the
individual instruction that you need to be successful in this course.

Registration must be received no later than October 7, 2008.
To secure your space, a $100 deposit and your

must be received no later than 10 days after
registering. All balances are due by October 3, 2008. All Checks are
payable to Camp Bethel. Charges (with 3% surcharge added) are
