Junior High Adventure
Biking+Canoeing 5
July 15-20, 2012
July 15-20
(Sun-Fri) for rising 7th-9th graders:
Adventure Camps are
for active youth who are comfortable living out-of-doors and ready for the next
level of camp adventure. You will truly live as a Christian body in a co-ed
family unit of 6-12 campers with 2-4 counselors in one of our creek-side
Adventure Villages located in our vast and beautiful riparian forest. Each A.V.
includes a boys’ hut, a girls’ hut and your dining shelter with fire circle, all
by the clean waters of Wilson Creek. You’ll eat most meals in the Ark, swim in
the pool, sleep on bunk beds with mattresses and personal screening, attend
all-camp events, and have access to all the amenities of the camp including
bathhouses. The highlight of your week is our Adventure outings (see
description below). Plus, we still get all the regular camp activities listed
for Jr High Resident Camp including group games, nature, crafts, music and
singing, campfire vespers, swimming, low-ropes group challenges, creek-play,
Home-in-the-Woods camping skills, hiking the camp trails and a singing hike to
Horseshoe Bend, orienteering and geocaching, unit-participation vespers and
Morning Watch, Bible study, polar bear swims, night activities, special all-camp
programs and a day on the high ropes course! This is a great week of spiritual
development, fun and adventure; exploring your extraordinary faith journey and
discovering the Treasures of the Kingdom. A specific letter and gear guide will
follow your sign-up. Limit 12 campers per program. By May 1 = $370; after May
1 = $420.
Biking
Zoom! There they
go! Bring a bike & helmet to camp for the week or borrow a camp bike; we’ll
pedal all week through camp and spend one day biking down the awesome Virginia
Creeper Trail (a historic “rail-to-trail”) with top-grade rented bikes &
helmets. This trail winds down through a spectacular mountain gorge with 32
bridge/creek crossings. Along the way, we’ll visit USFS Green Cove Station, an
icy cold swimming hole, and eat the best pizza in Virginia. Back at camp, we’re
on 2 wheels exploring our 470-acre playground and enjoying our camp week. Rated
easy. Prerequisite: Must be able to ride a bike.
Canoeing
Your week includes
a full day of paddling on the beautiful James River, just 8 miles from Camp
Bethel. Canoe skills, swimming, lunch on the beach and more with your adventure
counselors on a 10-mile river section, perfect for beginners and seasoned
paddlers. With gear from our friends at Twin River Outfitters, your Adventure
counselors lead you on your river journey. Rated easy to moderate.
