River Adventure Program: New
River Trip Two Plus
July 1-6, 2012
July 1-6 (sun-Fri)
for rising 10th, 11th, 12th graders:
Your trip begins
with orientation and preparations during 1 night at Camp Bethel, and then we
spend 4 days and nights paddling, camping, cooking, playing and living as
Christians on the beautiful New River in Virginia, from Pepper’s Ferry in
Radford to Narrows Falls on Thursday. On Friday we’ll switch rivers and re-run
Balcony Falls on the James River and end with a Eucharist celebration before
dismissal at 6:30pm. The trip itinerary may change due to conditions of
weather, river or group needs. Rated easy to moderate. Leaders are Sue
Bentley, John Eggleston, Geno Iannaconne and a Camp Bethel Adventure Counselor.
By May 1 = $280; after May 1 = $330.
River Adventure Program is
a shared ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of SWVA and Camp Bethel. The River
Adventure Program has provided canoe adventures and trips for 35 years. Our
purpose is to experientially build an intentional Christian community in an
outdoor environment where we face the intense demands of supporting each other
during work-duties and challenging group activities. This enhances self-esteem,
encourages positive Christian values and develops leadership. Learn more at:

RAP Leadership:
Each experienced leader is certified in Moving Water Instruction, CPR and
Wilderness First Aid, plus a trained Camp Bethel staff counselor accompanies
each trip.
Equipment
essentials are provided, but week-long trip participants must supply their own
duffel, sleeping bags and personal items from a detailed list we send you after
registering.
Prerequisites:
Prior experience is not necessary, but the physical nature of canoeing requires
good health and average ability, (ex: carrying your gear plus helping with group
gear). Participants must pass a swim test on the first day of camp.
