Subject: HERITAGE DAY 2007 at CAMP BETHEL, Sat., Oct. 6, 7:30am-2:30pm.
Dear Friends,
Hello from YOUR Camp Bethel!
You and your church are invited to once again participate in the Virlina District’s Annual Brethren Heritage Celebration, also known as Heritage Day. With many additions and changes to the event since 1984, Heritage Day still remains the “grandest of Camp Bethel’s days.” In 2006, your efforts raised $24,820! All the day’s revenue goes directly to the camp’s mission; thus Heritage Day is camp’s most important fund-raising event, providing 4% of the total annual income for Camp Bethel.
Please join our 2007 Heritage Day Festival!
If you are planning to serve or sell food, candy, snacks or drinks of any kind, please refer to the enclosed packet of foodservice information. If you are NOT selling or serving any food items, disregard the foodservice packet.
It is our hope to have EVERY Virlina District congregation participating in some way on Heritage Day. If your church can’t prepare a booth, please help with set-up on Thursday & Friday, parking on Saturday, take-down, clean-up, or you can make a special offering to Camp Bethel in honor of Heritage Day. Participants and helpers may lodge or camp at Camp Bethel Friday and Saturday night, October 5-6, free of charge with RSVP (540) 992-2940 or camp.bethel@juno.com.
Plan A is for our 2007 Heritage Day Festival to be out-of-doors in main camp as in years 1984-2005.
Plan B, in case of rain Saturday morning, move exhibits into the Deer Field Gym as we did in 2006.
Final determination (of Plan A or B) will be announced by 5:00am Saturday morning, October 6. Please be prepared for either plan. Thank you!
We once again hope you can help with our “Brethren Heritage Area” where we will display and demonstrate the “old ways” and the highlights of today’s Virlina District Church of the Brethren to our guests. In cooperation with the Virlina District, we will display memorabilia, antiques, and have persons dressed in traditional garb. We’ll also have a booth with information about the denomination’s 300th Anniversary. It’s our chance to witness on behalf of the Church of the Brethren to hundreds of guests and families from surrounding communities!
Our day on October 6th opens to the public with 7:30am breakfast in the Ark (Ninth Street CoB) and booths open throughout camp 9:00am through 2:30pm. We will have children’s activities, plenty of food, wagon rides, a children’s fishing rodeo, a Red Cross blood drive on site, wonderful crafts and sale items, an improved traffic pattern, and blessed fellowship of faithful servants!
Please complete and return your “Exhibit Space and Registration Form” by September 20 to the Camp address. If you are serving foods, complete and return your “Alleghany/Roanoke… Foodservice Permit” also by September 20. If you have any questions about Heritage Day, the health regulations, lodging or helping, call Barry or Susan at the Camp at (540) 992-2940 or e-mail camp.bethel@juno.com. Extra Heritage Day forms are available at our web site, www.campbethelvirginia.org.
Thank you for your help, and see you here for Heritage Day on Saturday, October 6th, 2007!
Peace,
Barry Susan Tim Fonda
