Deer Field Gym is open all weekend for basketball, volleyball & games. Please return balls to bin, remove trash and turn off lights and close doors when not in use. Parents: Please supervise children in the gym! The bathrooms and gym facilities have been damaged and left extremely messy at past events by unsupervised children.

6:30-7:00	Trading Post Open: Shirts, hats, bottles, blankets & more all at reduced prices.
7:00-7:30	Wagon Ride! Meet in Ark parking lot at 7:00.
8:00-9:00 FREE CONCERT! County Connection	Special Concert: County Connection + Campfire + S’mores at Hillside (rain = fire at Shelter by-the-Spring). Bring money for a free-will offering for the band & County Connection CDs @ $10 each; plus flashlights & marshmallow sticks. "Our band has been playing together for 7 years. We come from the counties of Giles, Montgomery, and Roanoke - thus the name County Connection! We play anything from traditional bluegrass, gospel, to rock-n-roll remakes. Two of our members come from a long-line of family musicians. We just have a great time playing music!"
9:00 - ?	Late night pick-up jam session at Hillside around the campfire. Bring your instrument, picks, and “high-lonesome sounds.”

8:00-9:00 FREE CONCERT! Statement	Special Bluegrass Concert at Hillside! Statement + Campfire + S’mores (also at Hillside). Bring money for Statement CDs and a free-will offering for the band; flashlights & marshmallow sticks. Statement, the band, hails from the rich musical traditions of Floyd County ("the center of the Brethren world"). This young group will impress you with their playing and inspire you with their mix of traditional bluegrass and bluegrass Gospel.
9:15-10:45 Movie Night!	Movie night: (See printed schedule for movie info), on the big screen in the House of Pillars Conference Room.

Sunday, September 2, 2007:

7:30am	Morning Watch at the Big Spring w/ Karen. Rain location is Hillside Auditorium.

9:30	Sunday Morning Worship and singing at New Bethel Church of the Brethren. 1 hour. All camp guests are invited to worship this morning at New Bethel CoB, a short walk from Camp Bethel. Bring an offering to help New Bethel's ministries. Lunch at camp is an open buffet from 12:30-1:45 to give families time to return to Camp Bethel from their 11:00 services at their local home churches.
12:30-1:45pm	LUNCH BUFFET OPEN in the Ark, come when you can; all you can eat buffet, $7.50 adult; $4 child 4-8; under 4 free; (see menu)
1:30-5:15	Pool Open. Free admission. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
2:00-3:00	Staff available in camp office for payments; checks or exact change please.
4:00-5:00	Camp Bethel's 80th Anniversary: A Service of Celebration
5:30	Pot-Luck DINNER in Shelter-by-the-Spring. Bring a food item and enjoy great shared fellowship. Camp Bethel will provide drinks, cups, plates, utensils & paper products. Everyone is invited, on site and off site!
6:00	WE BID A “FONDA” FAREWELL TO… During our dinner, the OMC and the Camp Bethel community of staff, volunteers, campers and supporting families will honor Fonda Wilson, the camp’s Director of Food Services 2004-2007. Fonda’s last day at camp was August 15. Fonda moved back to her original chosen profession as a Radiological Technologist in a private practice. In her four years at camp, she helped raise the standard of excellence for the Ark’s food services and she poured her love and care into her work. Notes of appreciation (and requests for recipes) may be brought to dinner or sent to Fonda at PO Box 252, Cloverdale, VA 24077.
6:30-7:00	Trading Post Open
6:30 & 6:50	Wagon Rides in camp & into TB2; 20 min; meet at Shelter-by-the-Spring at 6:30 or 6:50.
7:15-7:45	Family Talent Show in Shelter-by-the-Spring. Organize the kids and let them show off their "talent". Expect larger attendance as part of the 80th Anniversary events.
8:00-9:00 FREE CONCERT! Mountain Breeze	SPECIAL Bluegrass Concert at Hillside! Mountain Breeze & Campfire + S’mores at Hillside Auditorium. Bring money for free-will offering (to cover costs) and for Mountain Breeze CDs. Don't forget flashlights & marshmallow sticks. Mountain Breeze blows down the valley from Floyd into Camp Bethel Sunday night. Led by Mike Mitchell (Copper Hill CoB), Mark Lewis, Bill Moran & Ross Peacemaker, they bring a crisp, classic sound of fiddle, banjo, guitar and bass. With the heat of the last few weeks, this Mountain Breeze feels (and sounds) GREAT!
9:30 - ?	Late night pick-up jam session for everyone at Hillside or Carolina Haven.

Monday, September 3, 2007, Labor Day:

7:00-7:30am	Polar Bear Swim! Free admission. Last swim of the summer! Children under 8 must be accompanied by adult or older sibling.
8:30am	Help needed to put cover on pool. With many persons, this will take only 15 minutes.

End of scheduled activities

You are welcome to remain at camp through Tuesday afternoon, though no direct services will be available after 11:30am Monday. Enjoy your holiday, and enjoy your Camp!

CAMP BETHEL's Labor Day Family Camp Weekend

ADDITIONAL (and much repeated) INFORMATION:

Payment:

For meals, lodging or camping, plan to “settle” with staff in the camp office at one of the following times:

5-6:00pm Friday or 10-11:00am Saturday or 2-3:00pm Sunday or 10:30-11:30am Monday.

Please complete the enclosed payment form and present it to Ruth at your time of payment. Please pay by check or with exact change as we do not keep cash in the office. If you cannot make payment at one of these times, we will bill you via post mail. You may also pay in advance if you wish. Include payment for meals, lodging, linens and camping in your total payment. Pay for ice at the time you get it (after meals in the Ark, $2 per bag.)

To reserve your spot for Labor Day 2008-09 or Memorial Day 2008-09: Because of the growing popularity of our holiday family weekends, you MUST complete a RESERVATION FORM for each upcoming holiday weekend and pay the minimum deposit to reserve your lodging.

What to Bring:

Bring some extra cash or your check book for the Trading Post, CDs at our concerts AND to donate toward a free-will offering at each concert to offset performer expenses for Camp Bethel.

- clothes fit for the weather - swim suit - food as needed - rain (?) gear - camera

- checkbook or exact cash for payments, Trading Post, ice & CDs - games and all your family traditions

When You Arrive:

Go ahead and move in and begin enjoying your weekend. From now on RV campers are required to call ahead to reserve specific sites (see RV camping information for specific sites). RV campers may set up anywhere, but please respect public access areas (stay clear of shelters, roads and bathhouses) and share hook-ups when camping off of established sites. Tent campers should not pitch tents on an RV site. As a tent camper, you may pitch your tent wherever you like and however remotely you wish. Please park on paved surfaces only, if possible. Also, please limit vehicular traffic through camp to ensure the safety of pedestrians and families on bicycles. Camp speed limit is 5 mph.

Suggestions for RV’s & Tents:

Obviously, we have a limited amount of RV sites and full hook-ups. From now on RV campers are required to call ahead to reserve specific sites (see RV camping information for specific sites). Please consider camping near the camp entrance with electric and water hook-ups. Please do not park RVs around the Cave Trail Picnic Shelter; use the field above. If you have not reserved an RV site please consider parking the RV and walking around camp to scout out available electrical plugs (check light poles and buildings for outdoor plugs). If possible, avoid running an extension cord from an indoor plug through a window. Please use dual spigots to share water spouts.

Tent campers may pitch anywhere, but please avoid public access areas. Try our new acreage behind and beyond the Craft Cabin.

While You’re Here & Before You Leave:

In a continuing effort to reduce our energy costs, please turn off lights & fans when not in use and don’t over-light buildings or areas, don’t overheat rooms, and be sure water is not running. Quiet hours are 9:00pm through 8:00am. Upon departure, turn off heat, lights, fans, and please take your trash to the dumpsters beside the Retreat Center. Any cleaning you can do in your cabin/lodge saves Camp Bethel time and money. Please try to be as self-sufficient as possible during your stay; most of you know where on camp to find the things you need. Thank you for helping us by helping yourselves.

Meeting Your Needs:

Please try to be as self-sufficient as possible during your stay. Most cabins & lodges have closets with extra paper supplies and cleaning supplies. Extra toilet paper and paper towels are in closets or the Ark Staff room if needed. Thank you for helping us by helping yourselves. If you have questions or needs please feel free to contact one of the on-site staff. It is helpful to us if cabin/cottage/lodge users make a written list of the supplies and repairs you find each facility may need.

Sunday Pot-Luck Dinner:

Please attend Sunday, September 2 at 5:30pm at the Shelter-by-the-Spring. Bring a food item for four persons. Camp will provide drinks, ice, cups, plates, utensils, serving utensils, paper products. Stay through the evening for a free concert.

PARENTS MUST BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CHILD BEHAVIOR AND SAFETY!!! Please check on your children often. We REQUIRE use of bike helmets for young riders, and we encourage ALL riders to wear helmets. Equip children with flashlights after hours. Please, no biking after dark. Please note that cabins and lodges have cleaning closets with cleaning chemicals. The best child-proofing and child-safety measure we have is parent supervision.
