Summer 2013 Curriculum:

All Things New:  See What God Is Doing!

From the very beginning, God creates order out of chaos.  With each new day light overcomes darkness, new life emerges, and we find new potential in our own lives.  The Bible provides the good news for us that just as God restored the lives of ancient people, God will renew us today as well.  Our experiences at camp together show us that through Christ, God continues to do a new thing in us, both individually and collectively.  Come and see what God is doing!

New Day 1Isaiah 43:19-21:  God wants to do a new thing with me this week. How will I respond?

New Day 2Psalm 104: 24-33; Genesis 1-2:3:  Creation is past, present, and future; and we are part of it!

New Day 3Jeremiah 18:1-6; Isaiah 64:8; Genesis 2:4-7:  God is always working with me. I need to be open to God’s shaping of me like clay in the potter’s hand.

New Day 4Exodus 31:1-13; Luke 10:38-42:  God gave me gifts to be creative. God gives me rest to be re-created.

New Day 5Acts 17:19-34:  God calls me to take next steps of faith and discipleship. New understanding results in new behavior.

New Day 6 Ephesians 4:1, 15-16, 22–32; Acts 11:26:  I will live more fully for and with God. God will constantly renew me. I can always grow up more and more in Christ.

Camp to Home Philippians 1:3-6:  God isn’t finished with us! God is with us wherever we go.

American Camp Association Accredited since 1970.

In the hills of our Virginia, where the whippoorwills are calling, where the crystal springs are flowing, is our Camp Bethel.”

Written in 1927, our old Camp song evokes the lasting images of this blessed place:  the hills and forests rise to meet the towering Blue Ridge Mountains; the abundant wildlife scampers through the fields and flits in the tree tops; the wash of waters gurgles in our streams, our glassy ponds, and rises to fill the Big Spring; youth and children sing in a peaceful sanctuary of sun-filled days and star-lit nights.

The Summer Program
Camp Bethel's program was established in 1927 and is accredited by the American Camp Association.  Activities include swimming, hiking, crafts, environmental education, singing, camp-outs, cook-outs, Home-in-the-Woods camping skills, group games, creek-play, campfires, group challenge course, high ropes course, nightly evening programs and worship, daily work duties, service projects and daily Bible Study.

Our program offers progression into more adventure-based experiences for older campers so that campers are encouraged to return year after year.  These adventures include our high-ropes course, backpacking, canoeing, caving, equestrian training, horseback riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, river tubing and white-water rafting.

Our philosophy is a small group emphasis which focuses on creating and nurturing an intentional Christian community, living as the Body of Christ.  All daily activities are experienced as a family unit as each group learns to work, play, and worship together.  Campers sleep in gender-separated cabins and huts (girls in "girls' cabins" and boys in "boys' cabins").  Cabins on main campus are air-conditioned during hot weather.

SUMMER STAFF & VOLUNTEERS:  We are very proud of our excellent summer staff of counselors, volunteers and support staff and their commitment to quality programming at Camp Bethel! Each staff member and volunteer is interviewed, screened, selected and trained by the Camp Director.  After a comprehensive background check and reference check, staff are hired on the basis of their Christian character, their ability share their faith and teach all our camp skills, their love of activity and the outdoors, and their commitment to helping children and youth.

The Camp Director and Summer Program Coordinators train the summer staff during an intense, comprehensive, fun, two-week Staff Training prior to the first camper week. Staff Training includes detailed and complete preparations in safety, first aid, emergency procedures, prevention, and all the methods and procedures of our educational goals and camp activities.  All staff are certified in CPR, Basic Life Support and 2nd-Level Pediatric First Aid.  Your campers are sure to have a safe and fun week living and learning with their counselors.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining the 2013 Camp Bethel Summer Staff, contact Barry for an application at (540) 992-2940, or e-mail at campbetheloffice@gmail.com.
