I hope this note finds you and your family healthy and happy. I wish you God’s peace in this challenging and revealing time.
Due to the continuing health risks of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be able to hold an “in-person” Heritage Day Festival at Camp Bethel on Saturday, October 3. Camp has re-opened for families, guest rentals, and some modified events and programming, but Heritage Day would be too complex to mitigate health risks for so many person-to-person interactions and the high volume of attendees and participants.
I know many congregations have already been preparing items and foods for Heritage Day, so I encourage each congregation and/or family to explore what's possible: A drive-thru church "yard sale" or food stand? A special after-church parking lot event? An on-line sale or auction with doorstep delivery or pickup? A special offering? Any way you can help support Camp Bethel in 2020 in honor of Heritage Day is greatly needed AND appreciated.
Please let me know how we, the camp staff and the Outdoor Ministries Committee, can support or promote your creative efforts. Updated information is at www.CampBethelVirginia.org/Heritage-Day. I have also attached our latest "Camp Bethel News, Fall 2020" as PDF to this email for you to share with your congregations.
Personally, this cancellation hurts. We already miss you all so very much, and now we will miss this, our favorite of days. We know that you, too, have been impacted by COVID-19, so thank you for your time and your support. We continue to adapt and respond in responsible and creative ways, and we continue to foster and build relationships with God, with each other, and with creation. Your continued support is a great blessing to everyone in our Camp Bethel community!
Contact me with any questions, input, concerns, or ideas, and let me know how we can support you. Contact me at CampBethelOffice@gmail.com or 540-992-2940.

Subject: 36th HERITAGE DAY, CAMP BETHEL, Sat., Oct. 3, 2020, 7:30am-2:30pm.
Dear Friends,
Camp Bethel needs YOUR participation! We encourage you and your congregation to participate in Camp Bethel’s 36th Annual Brethren Heritage Celebration, also known as Heritage Day. With many additions and changes to the event since 1984, Heritage Day still remains the “grandest of Camp Bethel’s days.” In 2019, your combined efforts and events raised $38,000! 100% of Heritage Day revenue directly funds our ministry; thus Heritage Day is camp’s most important fund-raising event, providing 6% of camp’s total annual funding!
Please join our 2020 Heritage Day Festival! It is our hope to have EVERY Virlina District congregation participating in or attending Heritage Day. Participants and helpers may lodge or camp at Camp Bethel Friday and Saturday night, Oct 2-3 free of charge with RSVP 540-992-2940 or CampBethelOffice@gmail.com. If your church can’t participate with a booth, help in one or more other ways:
The Camp Property Committee is seeking volunteers to help with PARKING cars in 2-hour shifts 6:00am-2:00pm on October 3. Contact 540-992-2940 or CampBethelOffice@gmail.com.
Our day on October 3 opens to the public with 5:00am Apple Butter canning, 7:30am breakfast in the Ark and Mount Union Booth #27, and booths open throughout camp 9:00am-2:30pm. We have food, children’s fishing, wonderful crafts and sale items, plenty of Brethren Heritage items and demonstrations, live music and blessed fellowship of faithful servants!
Please complete and return your “Exhibit Space and Registration Form” OR submit your information on line at www.CampBethelVirginia.org/heritage-day, all by September 24. Please note that our festival is EXEMPT from formerly required permitting through the Health Department.
If you have any questions about Heritage Day, lodging or helping, e-mail us at CampBethelOffice@gmail.com.
Thank you for your donations, your jars, and your help, and see you here for Heritage Day on Saturday, October 3, 2020!
