Pool Coordinator (18+):
The Pool Coordinator is the certified on-duty lifeguard at Camp Bethel's pool for the summer; (pool is pictured above). The Pool Coordinator works with the camp's Facilities Manager to maintain the cleanliness/chemical level of the pool. S/He will oversee camper swim tests (for access to the deep-end of the pool) and assigning swim bands for these campers, plan exciting pool games for all campers to enjoy. The Pool Coordinator organizes, prepares, and keeps inventory of all pool-related equipment: toys, balls, floats, chairs, accessories, cleaning gear, emergency/rescue equipment, etc. The Pool Coordinator works with Counselors to schedule and facilitate pool times. Weather permitting, the pool is open daily Monday through Friday from 1:00pm-5:15pm. With advance notice and coordinator of schedules, the Pool Coordinator may make the pool available to Units at any other time of the day, morning or evening. During staff training, the Pool Coordinator is expected to work with the summer staff to teach rules, procedures, safety and expectations of pool use. If necessary, the Pool Coordinator will work with staff through the summer to improve adherence to pool rules and procedures. When the Pool Coordinator is not occupied by pool-related tasks s/he is expected to fill in wherever needed for other general camp and program responsibilities.
The Pool Coordinator duties include serving as the lifeguard on duty for outside groups on Sunday afternoons May 27-August 1. For Saturday guest groups, the Pool Coordinator has first choice of life-guarding opportunities for extra pay, OR the Pool Coordinator schedules another lifeguard. Summer 2021 will have new and added health-and-safety protocols to prevent the spread of communicable diseases (COVID).
No matter what percentage of the population is vaccinated by May 31 and no matter how circumstances have changed, we must operate as if everyone has COVID while at the same time adapting all we do at camp to mitigate the risk of virus transmission from person to person. For this reason, we must take our new health-and-safety protocols seriously. If you can not or will not take them seriously, do not apply. Implementing multiple COVID risk-mitigation protocols requires altering our staff structure, limiting exposure to other Units, and giving Units more autonomy. For 2021, we will not hire specific Coordinators for Ropes, Spiritual Life, Media, or Trips. Instead, we will have a team of 8 adult Unit Coordinators (4 females and 4 males) who are trained to lead EVERYTHING. Each Unit will have a Unit Coordinator who oversees the Unit’s specialized activities (crafts, high ropes, Bible Study, etc.) and ensures COVID-19 protocols. Ideally, each co-ed Unit will include 1 Unit Coordinator, 1 Senior Counselor, and 2 Junior Counselors, with a maximum of 10 campers. Single-gendered Units could be one cabin or two. Alongside our 8 Unit Coordinators, we are hiring a minimum of 10 Senior Counselors (5 females; 5 males) and a maximum of 14 Junior Counselors (7 females; 7 males).
