River Canoeing: Your week includes 1/2 day of paddling on the beautiful James River, just 8 miles from Camp Bethel. Canoe skills, swimming, lunch on the beach and more with your adventure counselors on a 10-mile river section, perfect for beginners and seasoned paddlers. Rated easy-moderate.
Horseback Riding (Western-style trail riding). Your week includes a day of riding horseback at Reba Farm Inn in Bedford, Virginia. Learn basic horse-care and gain Western-style riding skills along the winding trails and overlooks as you “Giddy-up” close and personal climbing the hills on the back of a one-horse-powered, muscular mare or mustang. Take the mule-cart for a drive before you leave! Gear, helmets and leaders included. Minimum weight 60 lbs; “no horsing around!” Rated easy-moderate.
Opting out of overnight sleep-out during your week: On Home-in-the-Woods night for week-long Resident/Adventure Camps (see individual camp descriptions), your child may choose to opt out of the overnight sleep-out with their group and instead sleep in a cabin with our Leadership Team. To opt-out of sleep-out, check the “Opt-Out” box in your registration form. We want EVERY child to feel comfortable and have FUN during their time at camp.
2020 No-Risk Policy for Cancellations, Late Arrivals, Early Departure:
You can register with confidence. Should you pay for camp, and later decide to keep your child home, or if the schedule changes again, OR if camps are cancelled, YOU HAVE RISK-FREE OPTIONS:
1. Credit 100% of your payments toward another available 2020 program, or
2. Credit 100% of your 2020 payments to 2021 pre-registration, or
3. Donate part or all to help Camp Bethel weather significant financial losses due to March-June group cancellations (and help ensure we're here for you in 2021), or
4. 100% refund. We just need to hear from you at least 24 hours prior to the start of your camp, and sooner if possible. Please notify the camp office 540-992-2940 or CampBethelOffice@gmail.com ASAP if your camper will not attend this session.
Late arrival and early departure is discouraged, but allowed if needed. However, because staff, food, and supplies are already secured, we cannot provide pro-rated refunds for partial camp attendance once your camper has arrived unless Camp Bethel cancels the program.
Safety and health is our highest priority, and our policies and practices ensure safe and high-quality experiences. We are aligning plans and best practices with our many professional camp associations, and we expect upcoming guidance for summer camps from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health. We'll post updates at www.CampBethelVirginia.org/COVID19.
