Hannah Beecher: Assistant Program Coordinator Adventure
Hannah has enjoyed coming to camp since she was little, this is her 6th year on summer staff and is excited to step into the assistant program coordinator position! This summer, Hannah is looking forward to working with, getting to know, and building upon and new relationships with our returning and new staff. She is also really excited about the new adventures she will get to have in her new position. One of Hannah’s favorite camp memories is from when she was a camper and during home in the woods her unit had a spitting/laughing contest where everyone would hold water in their mouths and would try not to laugh while another camper made a bunch of jokes. The next night, they wanted to sleep out one more night, so they dragged our mattresses from our cabins to Hillside and slept out in there. That was one of the best years Hannah experienced as a camper.

Vince Carroll: Senior Counselor
Vince is a laid-back kind of guy that’s always up for something fun, whether it be adventurous or relaxed or even a little mischievous (but harmless). He loves hiking and playing sports, particularly ultimate frisbee, volleyball, and tennis. For nonathletic stuff, Vince enjoys games, puzzles, and riddles that require critical thinking. He is also a movie-lover (except horror films), a Nintendo gamer, and a fan of ‘70s and ‘80s music--you might often catch me singing Bon Jovi. Ultimately, Vince just enjoys being with people no matter what I’m doing. Vince has been a camper and counselor for another Christian camp, and he has been with and worked for Boy Scouts for years. Friends who were past counselors have recommended working at Camp Bethel, and after doing some research Vince was hooked on. Camp Bethel combines what he loves doing: being outdoors, working with kids, and sharing God’s love!

Guy Castillo: Adventure Counselor

Christa Craighead: Spiritual Life Coordinator
Christa is from Callaway, VA and is currently studying History and Political Science at Bridgewater College. Christa loves being outside, going for walks, cooking, playing basketball and reading. Every year Christa looks forward to being with the campers again because they bring so much insight with them. They remind Christa to have fun and stay true to her faith and they are always the reason Christa returns to camp! Christa’s favorite camp memory was one summer when she was a counselor to an all-girl unit of about 17 campers, middle and high-schoolers. It was an extremely large unit and they had three different adventures together that week, so it was hectic. On their last day, they sat on a bridge together in the shade of the trees listening to the creek flow by. They had bible study and then shared stories from the week and what they would miss the most. Moments like those with her campers are always Christa’s favorites-Decompressing the week by highlighting all the good moments we shared.

Spencer Knox: Assistant Program Coordinator of Nature
Spencer likes to longboard, hike, laugh, speak in a whimsical voice, throw Frisbee, play vidya games, attempt cartwheels, and work at camp. Spencer has been coming to camp since he was born and has worked on staff for 6 years. Every year, he tells himself that he should do something different and move on from camp. Every year, however, he is drawn back because summers at camp are unforgettable and unparalleled. He mourns the day when he, inevitably, will be unable to return. Camp Bethel is his home. This summer, he is looking forward to growing in his faith as he hangs out with old friends and bonds with new ones. He hopes to develop a surer sense of self in his new position as he is thinks it will help him later in life as a high school biology teacher. He also just loves seeing children filled with joy. His favorite memory at camp was when he was a camper on a River Adventure Program trip (R.A.P.). He was always a skinny kid so he was unable to paddle as long or as hard as the other kids on the trip. The counselors and other campers loved him anyways and made him feel like he was just as good as them. The best part of the trip was during one of the many homemade meals. He began to tell the story of “Rootball” (himself) and his companions: “Two-by-four, Diesel Pump, Grease Trap, and Wet Butt.” He gave all the campers different names and that’s all everyone called each other for the rest of the trip. It was his best summer ever.
