Wellness Retreats combine traditional camp experiences with additional therapeutic experiences to provide growth opportunities for physical and emotional health. This year’s Wellness Retreat, open to rising 8th -12th graders, will include several workshops and activities speaking to stress and anxiety including Walking Meditation: Practicing Awareness through Nature Walks, guided visualization mediation, yoga, journaling, and more.
These workshops will be led by Licensed Clinical Social Worker and former camp counselor, Stephanie DeHart Hewitt. These opportunities will benefit most individuals but will be especially relevant for youth who feel stress or anxiety affects their sleep, school performance, or social relationships. Campers will still have access to Camp Bethel’s small group camping model and activities including crafts, music and singing, swimming, low-ropes group challenges, hiking, archery, and more. Campers can also choose to opt in or out of faith-based activities including campfire vespers and morning watch.
*Caregivers will receive a brief call from Stephanie to assess camper’s particular needs and fit for this program.
About the workshop leader:
Stephanie Hewitt is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who earned a Bachelor's of Social Work from Eastern Mennonite University and a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Southern California. Stephanie has substantial experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults who have experienced trauma. She has foundational training in EMDR and TF-CBT to support this particular work. Stephanie also works with children and adolescents who are experiencing depression, anxiety, panic disorders, who are experiencing divorce and caregiver changes, and other life changes. Stephanie’s camp experience includes being a camper, Counselor-in-Training, Sr. Counselor, and High Ropes Coordinator.
