Everyone is invited to Camp Bethel (328 Bethel Road, Fincastle, VA 24090) for the 2018 OMA Annual Retreat, Sunday, November 11, 5:00pm through Thursday, November 15, 10:00am. Our gathering will be a full and rewarding time of learning, sharing, playing, singing, and worship. Register TODAY!

YOUR ASSIGNMENTS:
1. For a special activity and worship in support of our theme, "Waters of Grace," you must bring or ship 1 quart bottle of water from your camp. This will not be for drinking, but try to bring clean water (example: spring water, creek water, lake water).
2. As part of this special activity and worship, we ask you to come to the retreat ready to "define your watershed" from which you brought your water sample.  Example: "Camp Bethel is located in the "Upper James River Watershed " Our water sample comes from our "Big Spring" which flows into Wilson Creek north to Back Creek north to Looney Creek east to the James River east to the Chesapeake Bay south to the Atlantic Ocean."  Use the USGS to find your watershed: https://txpub.usgs.gov/DSS/streamer/web/

On Monday, November 12 from 9:00am to 4:30pm, we will temporarily share our space and learn with dozens of other camp leaders from around Virginia for "Crisis Management Monday" workshops. See the list of Monday's important topics HERE.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- OMA Membership meeting on Monday night after dinner.
- Our own "Compelling Vision Process" session on Wednesday night after dinner.
- Camp Bethel site tour Tuesday morning after breakfast, weather permitting.
- Monday, Nov 12, 9:00am-4:30pm will be "Crisis Management Monday" with workshops and sessions specifically about handling crises/emergencies at camp. This is an annual event we've moved to November 12 so that OMA attendees can benefit (and also share/present). We invite all "camp people" from the ACA Virginias, so for half the day, we'll get to meet and mingle with dozens of "others" from camps across our region.  Then, they all leave at 4:30 and it's back to "just us!"
- Wednesday outing will leave after breakfast, lunch out, back for 5:30 dinner. Options include:
the Mill Mountain Star overlook and Discovery Center, Roanoke's Pinball Museum (play unlimited pinball), the Harrison Museum of African American Culture, the Science Museum of Western Virginia (and butterfly atrium), the Taubman Museum of Art, the Roanoke City Market Building w/ dozen ethnic food vendors, Roanoke Market Street shopping, the Virginia Museum of Transportation, the O. Winston Link Museum, Black Dog Salvage (and meet the Dawgs!), etc.
- Amtrak now serves Roanoke, so folks can ride train into town and we'll pick up: https://www.amtrak.com/stations/rnk
- Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, http://www.roanokeairport.com/, and we can pick up.

WORKSHOPS INCLUDE:

- Crisis Management Monday Workshops, Marketing, Mental Health, Staff Recruitment, Outdoor Ed. Programs, Group Games Share, Maintenance Tour (and Portable Sawmill Demo!), Food Services, How-To Demos (make a promo video; take good promo photos), Song Share, Site Tour, Roundtable Discussions, 2019 Curriculum "Peace Works," Fun Wednesday Field Trip, Crafts, and MORE, PLUS several surprises!
- 2
019 InsideOut Resource Peace Works. Empowering the Next Generation of Peacemakers – Jerri Heiser Wenger & Karen Neff
- Camps Partnering with District and Other Ministries - Amanda Helfrich.
- "Re-Start with Why 2.0: Overcoming Existential Threats to Church and Camp. A rapidly changing reality calls for focused mission, creativity, transformational leadership, and encouraging "smart failure."  Using videos and shared experiences we will explore "starting with WHY," and together we will brainstorm how to build our 'WHY 2.0'.

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING:
"Our son and daughter have been coming to Camp Bethel since they were 5 years old--they are now 13 and 14 years old. We have found that your camp is one of the few that our kids continue to enjoy even as they are older. Other camps (sometimes a lot more expensive) are nice but for some reason the magic of Camp Bethel remains. We also really respect the way that your camp incorporates God and Bible study but in such a way that it is still cool--a rarity these days to find a place where kids can be kids and learn to love God and care for one another in God's creation. Thanks so much for the awesome experience for our kids and the ongoing magic that is Camp Bethel. Thanks, Gina and Chris Engel"
